Introduction Paragraph

  • Topic:   The large number of teenagers deciding to become transgender.
  • Thesis statement: What impact does social media have on teenagers deciding to become

                                   transgender?

  • Introduction overview

In 2017, 2359 out of 96792 high school students from 10 states and 19 schools identified as transgender (Johns et al, 2017). I have female friends who 2 years ago wanted to shave their legs to fit in with the girls, and now they are stating they are male. Why the sudden change, and is it something they really believe or understand? This is a huge life change and a seemingly complex decision for a teenager with an unformed brain to make, so if social media plays a part then this is a good piece of information for teenagers and their parents to have. In the research I found the following main points to answer my thesis question: 1. The number of teenagers deciding to identify as another gender. 2. Why are so many teens exploring transitioning? 3. How social media influences teenagers.

Body Paragraph 1 Topic: The number of teenagers deciding to identify as another gender.

Body Paragraph 3 Topic: : How social media influences teenagers.

  • Supporting Sentence 1: Source point (source, year)
  • Supporting Sentence 2:
  • Supporting Sentence 3:

Conclusion Overview:

  • Provide a summary of your paper.

Based on the research as to why so many more teenagers (mainly females) are choosing to explore being transgender, and how social media is such a big part of their lives, I could not find any solid support that social media plays a significant role in teenagers deciding to become transgender.  The majority of the research on teenagers becoming transgender states other factors such as peers self-diagnosing and reinforcing each other that becoming transgender would solve their anxiety or explain why they feel so socially awkward (Harley, 2020)
