Bidens Foreign Policy Is Taking the US Discussion
1. Foreign Policy
In order to take your accumulating knowledge of government “out of the classroom,” and place it into the world around you, you must begin analyzing and applying government content to contemporary news issues (within the last 3 months) in U.S. government and politics. The article cannot be an opinion piece, blog, or other personalized editorial and must be a reporting article. You will need to read an article having something to do with Foreign Policy in relation to the US and then discuss it using the following prompt.
For this week’s current event discussion, you can choose a news article about Foreign Policy in relation to the United States government.
In your original post you must:
1. Provide the title of the article, URL, publication date, and a 50+ word summary of the article in your own words.
2. Describe what the article explicitly has to do with either Political Parties or Elections in relation to the United States government in 50+ words.
3. What are your thoughts and feelings after reading this article?

Title: Biden holds first call with Ukrainian president amid Russian buildup
URL: https://www.politico.com/news/2021/04/02/joe-biden-ukrainian-president-call-478917
Publication Date: 04/02/2021
Summary: Last week on Friday, President Joe Biden and the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky spoke for the first time since President Biden took office. The reason behind their over the phone conversation was the recent threat to Ukraine’s border’s from Russia. The article discussed this Russian threat to Ukraine along with $125 million dollars in lethal aid sent to Ukraine to help them in their fight against Russian-backed separatists.
This article is discussing one of the tactics that the US has often used when dealing with foreign warfare; Early prevention. By supplying Ukraine with the equipment necessary to stave off Russian aggression, the US has to do little to nothing in regards to fighting the Russians themselves. Although we spent $125 million on the newly offered lethal aid, if it helps the Ukrainian Army fight off Russia, then the US will not have to intervene. This is a much cheaper solution to the problem then going to help Ukraine with an army, because raising an army to fight off Russia in Ukraine would most likely get little public support, while being expensive to maintain and it would be hard to settle the public.
In my personal opinion, while the aide we are offering Ukraine could make sense, I don’t really understand how helping Ukraine at the expense of the American taxpayer is supposed to be beneficial to the American populace.
