The plight of uncompensated care is of extreme concern, especially in regard to the impact on hospitals as frontline caregivers. There are many hospitals across the United States that routinely treat (medically and surgically) without regard to collection of any payment. Two of these hospitals are Shriners and St. Jude Hospitals.

For either of these two hospitals: 1) Review its annual report. 2) Summarize its mission statement. 3) Discuss its services and target patient population. 4) Report its income sources and liabilities. 5) Identify how to deal with uncompensated care delivery. 6) Explore how such uncompensated care delivery might impact organizational structure, management policies, and financial issues.
