I’m working on a communications project and need an explanation and answer to help me learn.

This assignment continues to focus on  CLO 3: Expand your engagement with SJSU and the Communication Studies Department community, resources, and values.

Specifically, this assignment is designed to familiarize you with SJSU’s, and the COMM Department’s, programs, resources, and mission statement. For this assignment, you will do ALL of the following:

• Research a specific SJSU or COMM Department program (see options below);
• Clearly link the program to the COMM Department and SJSU’s mission statements;
• Connect the program to your own personal, professional, and academic goals;
• Record an approximately 4-minute virtual presentation that describes the program, its benefits, and how it support the SJSU &/or COMM Studies department mission. 

SPECIFIC STEPS

The following steps are ALL required in order to successfully complete this assignment. Be sure to carefully review all the steps before you begin. 

1. Choose a program offered by either the COMM Studies Department (Links to an external site.) , SJSU (SJSU Campus Resources) (Links to an external site.), or SJSU Cares (Links to an external site.) that best suits your interests. However, if we will have more than 5 students doing their research on the program, I will assign a different program to you. To help us have a variety of research, please participate in this discussion.
2. Review the history and mission of the both the COMM Department and SJSU.

3. Research the program you chose in step #1.
   • Explore the websites and other sources
   • Interview at least one person familiar with the program (you may interview up to three if you like).
     • When you request interviews, be sure to specify the purpose.
     • Create an interview guide (at least five questions you will ask in the interview).
     • Conduct the virtual interview (zoom, phone, or live chat).
     • Take clear notes (typed or handwritten)
     • Please Note: You will need to provide evidence of your research in the form of notes as well as photos/screen shots of your interviews
4. Make note of the the connections between the information you gathered about the program (research and interviews) and the SJSU & COMM Department mission statements, as well as with your academic, personal, and professional interests.
5. Write a one-page (250 – 300 words) personal reflection: Explain the specific connections between the program and your personal, professional and/or academic ambitions, concerns, and goals. 
6. Create a research report that includes all of  your research notes, interview guide & screen shot or evidence. Please create only one document. So, if you have screen shots, copy those into the document and then create a pdf file to upload.
7. Create and post a virtual presentation of your findings.

FORMAT:  All assignments should follow the Assignment Format guidelines in the course syllabus. Use APA-style format for in-text citations and reference lists.  Incorporate quotes sparingly and include page numbers for direct quotes from any reading. When citing web-pages, or other online sources, include paragraph numbers.
