Purpose

This activity will provide you with the opportunity to take a close look at the treatment of individuals with disabilities inside their care facility. You will examine how disability rights were upheld or denied at this facility. You will compare and contrast the treatment of these individuals and the other residents of the facility and analyze how it changed over time.

Skills

The purpose of this activity is to help you practice the following skills that are essential to your success in this course / in school / in this field / in professional life beyond school:

  • MLO #2.3: Explain and analyze legal mandates requiring reasonable accommodations needed by people with disabilities in daily living, the workplace, public services, public accommodations and education.

Course Objective 2: Analyze issues of social justice relating to disability and the global growth of legal and civil rights of individuals with disabilities domestically and internationally.

Were you surprised by anything you learned in the Podcast? Describe how disability rights were upheld or denied at this facility. Compare and contrast the treatment of these individuals and the other residents of the facility. Provide and analysis of how their treatment changed over time.
