RWS 1943 GCCCD Guideline to Hiring Men and Women Discussion

After reading “1943…”, (Module 6, Canvas readings) rewrite one of the guidelines for hiring in language that is not sexist, racist, uses ageism or any other type of discrimination. It should be very neutral and not offend anyone.

Reply:

The rule I am choosing to rewrite is number 4 which is to “retain a physician to give each woman you hire a special physical examination – one covering female conditions.” I would rewrite this rule to include men as well and require a physician to give every employee a physical examination to reveal if they have any weaknesses that would make them mentally or physically unfit for the job. Depending on the job, you need to be able to meet the physical standard to work diligently and I think both men and women can have medical conditions that can hinder their success so getting a physical exam for every employee will guarantee everyone is up to the standard the employee needs to have a successful workplace environment. This rule in “1943” is discriminatory against just women when every employee can have conditions making them unfit for work and I think rewriting the rule to require a physical for everyone takes away the sexism and discrimination.
