Feminism Body Paragraph Exercise
In order to do well on this assignment you’re going to need to have read the Basic Essay Structure page. Borrowing from one of last week’s assignments, I’m going to ask you to complete the following thesis statement:
“I [do / do not] identify as a feminist because ________.”
As it says in that page, a good body paragraph will have the following five things:
- Topic Sentence
- Context
- Evidence
- Analysis
- Transition
What I’d like you to do for this assignment is, again, complete the thesis statement above by filling in the blank (you only need to give one reason), and then write a body paragraph using the reason you give in the thesis statement, and following the numbered list above. Here’s an example of what I’m talking about:
Thesis Statement:
I do consider myself a feminist because of REASON X.
Body Paragraph:
One reason I consider myself a feminist is because REASON X. When I was a kid my parents taught me [SOME ANECDOTE RELATING TO REASON X]. As novelist Margaret Atwood writes in her novel The Handmaid’s Tale, “SOME QUOTE RELATING TO REASON X” (Atwood 54). This quote shows that [SOMETHING RELATED TO REASON X]. In addition [SOMETHING RELATED TO REASON X]. This also shows that [SOMETHING RELATED TO REASON X]. In addition to REASON X, I’m also a feminist because REASON Y.
