Based on last week’s conversation around students experiencing homelessness, Earl J. Edwards presents several scenarios at the end of his chapter, one of which we reviewed together on Friday. Please read and respond to Scenario #2 from Edwards’ book chapter below.

“After arriving to your first-period class fifteen minutes late for the tenth time, one of your ninth-grade students privately discloses that she and her father are living in motels. The motels are far from school, and she has to wait for her dad to get off after his second shift of work for him to drive her to school. She could take the local bus; however, her father told her that the situation will be temporary, and he is adamantly saving all of his money for an apartment.

Although you are the only person she disclosed to, there are rumors that she is staying at a motel across town. A twelfth-grade teacher does not know the student, but heard rumors and asked you whether they are true” (Howard et al., 2019, p. 166).
