• Charging airline passengers to use the in-flight bathroom

Create a topic sentence based on the topic you chose, remembering to include both a main idea and a controlling idea. Next, write an alternative topic sentence using the same main idea but a different controlling idea. First, for specific information on topic sentences and main ideas vs controlling ideas. I want you to pick a subject (any subject) and write two topic sentences. The topic sentences should have the same main idea but different controlling ideas. The text uses the following examples:

• Marijuana is a destructive influence on teens and causes long-term brain damage.
• The antinausea properties in marijuana are a lifeline for many cancer patients.
• Legalizing marijuana would create a higher demand for Class A and Class B drugs

The main idea is marijuana in all of the sentences, but the controlling ideas are all different.

Second, explain how each fully developed paragraph from each of the topic sentences would differ in tone and content. Use the concepts from section 5.1 to support.
