Getting Started

Screening tools assist us in identifying a victim of human trafficking and fortunately, there are multiple screening tools available. Generally, the screening tools are specific to a certain discipline, age of the potential victim (minor), type of trafficking (sex or labor), or practice area. There is not a “one size fits all” when it comes to screening tools. When reviewing or implementing these tools, you must make sure the tool is credible. In healthcare, while there are screening tools available, there is no clinically validated tool at this time.

Upon successful completion of this discussion, you will be able to:

  • Review human trafficking screening and assessment tools
  • Choose an appropriate screening/assessment tool for your discipline

Resources

Background Information

As you review the various tools, pay attention to the length of time it may take to interview the client/consumer/patient using that screening tool. Who is supposed to conduct the interview, and do they need special qualifications?
