1. (Suggested) Reread the text and/or re-watch the presentation.

2. In your own words, write a summary of the text, and response to both the article and Ted Talk, totaling between 500 + 750 words. Please do not exceed three double-spaced pages.

a. Your summary of the article (250-300 words) should demonstrate your ability to:

i. Introduce the rhetorical situation (title/author/speaker, audience, purpose).
ii. Write a topic sentence.
iii. Summarize a text’s main ideas in your own language/style while remaining objective.
iv. Give proper credit to an author with signal phrases, such as “The author explains….”
v. Create an MLA-style Works Cited entry.

b. Your response to the article and the Ted Talk (300-450 words) should state a focused opinion about the authors’ ideas + the subject matter they discuss. You may quote brief phrases if you wish with proper incorporation (in-text citations). Do not use any other sources outside of your chosen text and Ted Talk.

*Please make sure your essay is in doc/docx or pdf + formatted in MLA style to the best of your ability (not as picky about that on this first assignment if you’re missing an element of that style).
