Purpose of Assignment 
The purpose of this assignment is for students to synthesize the concepts learned throughout the course. This assignment will provide students an opportunity to build critical thinking skills, develop businesses and organizations, and solve problems requiring data by compiling all pertinent information into one report.
 
Resources: Microsoft Excel®, Signature Assignment Databases, Signature Assignment Options, Part 3: Inferential Statistics
 
Scenario: Upon successful completion of the MBA program, imagine you work in the analytics department for a consulting company. Your assignment is to analyze one of the following databases:

• Manufacturing
• Hospital
• Consumer Food
• Financial

 
Select one of the databases based on the information in the Signature Assignment Options.
 
Provide a 1,600-word detailed, four part, statistical report with the following sections:

• Part 1 – Preliminary Analysis
• Part 2 – Examination of Descriptive Statistics
• Part 3 – Examination of Inferential Statistics
• Part 4 – Conclusion/Recommendations

 
Part 1 – Preliminary Analysis
Generally, as a statistics consultant, you will be given a problem and data. At times, you may have to gather additional data. For this assignment, assume all the data is already gathered for you.
 
State the objective:

• What are the questions you are trying to address?

 
Describe the population in the study clearly and in sufficient detail:

• What is the sample?

 
Discuss the types of data and variables:

• Are the data quantitative or qualitative?
• What are levels of measurement for the data?

 
Part 2 – Descriptive Statistics
 
Examine the given data.
 
Present the descriptive statistics (mean, median, mode, range, standard deviation, variance, CV, and five-number summary).
 
Identify any outliers in the data.
 
Present any graphs or charts you think are appropriate for the data.
 
Note: Ideally, we want to assess the conditions of normality too. However, for the purpose of this exercise, assume data is drawn from normal populations.
 
Part 3 – Inferential Statistics
 
Use the Part 3: Inferential Statistics document.

• Create (formulate) hypotheses
• Run formal hypothesis tests
• Make decisions. Your decisions should be stated in non-technical terms.

 
Hint: A final conclusion saying “reject the null hypothesis” by itself without explanation is basically worthless to those who hired you. Similarly, stating the conclusion is false or rejected is not sufficient.
 
Part 4 – Conclusion and Recommendations
 
Include the following:

• What are your conclusions?
• What do you infer from the statistical analysis?
• State the interpretations in non-technical terms. What information might lead to a different conclusion?
• Are there any variables missing?
• What additional information would be valuable to help draw a more certain conclusion?

• You are a risk manager in a manufacturing company.   • Justify the use of the concept of conditional probability in the  context of your task—more specifically, discuss how you would use  conditional probability in your exposure due diligence efforts. Support  your discussion with relevant examples, research, and rationale.
• You are a marketing manager for a company that makes ready-to-eat  breakfast cereals. Your company recently initiated a loyalty program for  consumers, which resulted in a large purchaser database. The brand  managers are eager to examine the available data, which they can use to  design more effective promotional programs. Your first step is to  conduct an exploratory baseline analysis, the goal of which is to  describe the buyer base and estimate basic statistical descriptors of  the buyer base. You are particularly interested in the size of  individual purchases, as well as the frequency of repurchases.
  • Evaluate what discrete data distribution the frequency of repurchases data would be likely to follow.
  • Explain why the other discrete data distributions are not  appropriate for this data. Support your discussion with relevant  examples, research, and rationale.
• You are a marketing manager for a manufacturer of nonperishable  products sold in grocery stores. In this role, you need to make various  decisions about how much marketing/advertising support is needed by each  product to maximize the profitability of the organization.
  • Assess how the effectiveness of individual marketing/advertising approaches would be determined.
  • Discuss how historical sales data, as well as promotional response  data, can aid you in evaluating the effectiveness of the individual  marketing/advertising approaches. Support your discussion with relevant  examples, research, and rationale.

The final paragraph (three or four sentences) of your initial  post should summarize the one or two key points that you are making in  your initial response.

In a 2-3 page paper, answer the following questions about the piece. The paper should be double-spaced, 12 point Times Roman font.
1. What was the conflict or unrest that the music was composed about or during? Give some historical background information about the conflict.
2. When was the music composed? Give the closest date possible. Was it during, before, or after the conflict?
3. Did the music escalate the crisis? Was it designed to do that? Did it reach the audience that needed to hear it?
4. What do the lyrics discuss? Who’s side of the conflict does the song side with, if any? Who sings the piece?
5. Discuss the music of the piece. What is the texture? What instruments are used? What is the range? What is the melody like…conjunct or disjunct? What is the meter? Describe the rhythm. Do these musical elements make the piece more noticeable or unique?
