The first few weeks of class, we have studied several different elements of culture that help explain or identify how and why a particular group may behave in a certain way. In order to better understand one’s culture, you must also explore the “history of the culture.” Recall the culture’s history affects perception, behavior, and how people relate to other cultures.

This assignment will require the following three steps to better understand how historical events help to inform and influence culture. Please be sure to provide complete answers to each question.

1. Search the internet using the following question “why study history?”. Using the search and/or what you have learned in class, write a list of the five best reasons you could find with your search as it relates to your understanding of culture.

2. Now that you have identified your reasons for understanding the importance of history. Choose a specific country or culture that you would like to learn more about (feel free to select whatever country you prefer).

3. Once you have selected the country, go to YouTube and search for videos on the history of the country or culture you have selected. Using the video(s) as an example identify two to three different cultural values that you see are highlighted in the video. (hint, feel free to reference the cultural values worksheet on Canvas).
