ABAC Qualitative Research Towards Technology and Business Globalization Survey

Primary Task Response: Within the Discussion Board area, write 400–600 words that respond to the following questions with your thoughts, ideas, and comments. This will be the foundation for future discussions by your classmates. Be substantive and clear, and use examples to reinforce your ideas.

The discussion assignment for this week includes a review of your fellow classmates’ research questions for their topic, survey questions, and hypothesis or statement of the problem for the research question. Review at least 1 student and provide feedback on what was done well and possible areas of improvement.

Create Your Survey

Building on the organizational issue, problem, or topic that you identified in Unit 1, complete the following:

  • Determine your research method (i.e., qualitative or quantitative), and write 1 research question regarding that topic in preparation for the assignments in Units 3–4.
  • Based on your chosen research method, write your hypothesis or statement of the problem for your research question.
  • Based on your chosen research method, create 3–5 survey or interview questions that could help answer your research question.

Responses to Other Students: Respond to at least 1 of your fellow classmates with at least a 100-word reply about their Primary Task Response regarding items you found to be compelling and enlightening. To help you with your discussion, please consider the following questions:

  • What did you learn from your classmate’s posting?
  • What recommendations can you offer?
  • What, if any, clarification do you need regarding your classmate’s research question/ hypothesis?
  • What differences or similarities do you see between your posting and other classmates’ postings?

This is my unit one topic:

My research proposal topic will be technology and globalization. I would like to focus on business globalization and what businesses need to do to do to go worldwide. Also, the technology revolution in the global economy is very essential in globalization as businesses need to use technology to make globalization a success. In business, accordingly, globalization refers to the process by which businesses start to operate on an international scale or rather have an international influence. There has been an acceleration in globalization since the 18th century because of the advance in technology and transportation. Technological globalization on the other side is the diffusion of technology on the global economy. It is the spread of technology in the business world. For example, developing an online store that can sell goods and services online. Customers from all over the world can purchase the goods and get delivered the goods on time. An example of an online e-commerce business is Alibaba. It is a company specializing in retail, technology, the internet, and e-commerce. Consumers from anywhere in the world can access this online business and purchase any goods. With the development of technology, communication between consumers and this online business has been made easier and the delivery of goods as well. In my interest in this research proposal topic, I would like to dig deep into the topic and what more is required to make globalization a success.

Differences between academic and business research approaches

Problems in the world need proper addressing, making research a significant factor that helps to develop viable approaches that deal with the problems. The human race faces both social and economic problems, which has led to different research approaches for business problems and general knowledge approaches. Academic research approaches focus on problems or crises where they come up with theories and facts to back up a viable approach geared to dealing with the problem. Business research, on the other hand, focuses on the economic, social, and management issues that affect business organizations. Business research is geared to increasing organizations’ efficiency to carry out their daily activities and realize better profit margins.

In my research proposal, I will use a qualitative research approach since it would help me explore the topic ideas and thoughts in depth. The qualitative approach deals with words and their meanings unlike quantitative which deals with the analysis of data and statistics. Also, a business research approach would be appropriate since I am dealing with a business topic. The business research approach will help me develop answers and recommendations on the topic.

This is the student post, you should read it and write a response to the post. ( you can also take a good look at it so you get a better idea of the question and who the student answered it.)

For my unit one topic I had initially taken on a very broad issue and decided to take on a qualitative approach at an attempt at a giant organizational structural change regarding poor communication skills and unclear feedback procedures from consumers to the higher ups in the company. Initially I did not decide on a specific company to focus on but have since decided to focus on Amazon Prime simply because I order from them on an almost daily basis and have a lot of experience with their customer service. I have chosen to change my approach to a quantitative one because with the sheer numbers involved with a company this large it would be almost impossible to get an accurate representation of the majority using open ended questions and accepting long winded replies. Perhaps if this was something that I intended to spend years researching that approach may be better but for quicker, simpler, and faster results I definitely foresee numbers as being the key here. My research question will be a simple one, “are majority of customers pleased with their overall experience when it comes to Amazon Prime and do the benefits outweigh the monthly fee for the membership service?”

My hypothesis or statement of the problem is simple, “How accurate are the shipping times and package delivery promises that come associated with the paid membership?” The reason I chose this question is because recently I have ordered a few items for my maternity photographs that I had forgotten about until last minute. Because of my Amazon Prime membership I was promised that said pieces of costume jewelry and photo props would be delivered on a same day basis just as long as my order was $35 or more. I ordered a couple extra things that I did not even need just to enjoy the benefit of same day delivery for the things I did need to make the photo shoot go off without a hitch. You can imagine my frustration when the things I did not need arrived as stated but the main prop for my shoot that I really needed showed up in my inbox with an apology of them being behind and the unfortunate news that my things wouldnt be delivered until the next day. Their was no offer of a refund, their was no question or option of whether I still wanted the other things that were part of the order as a requirement to make it expedited, their was absolutely nothing other than me having to settle for something that didnt match exactly from the store and my photo shoot running behind.

I am not totally ridiculous and I do understand that human error happens and things like storms or traffic jams take place but this is not the first time this service has let me down and my questions for the company are also going to be simple.

  • Am I an anomaly that has this problem or is a regular issue for several of your members?
  • Do you intend to readjust your promise statement and make revisions regarding products that there really is not a pretty positive guarantee on?
  • Why is it not taken into consideration that people are adding extra things to their orders just to meet that price point for same day delivery and the fact is just totally ignored when it does not happen?
  • Is it possible for something besides a simple sorry to be done for instances like this that may not matter to Amazon as a company but could severely affect an important event for a real life everyday person?
  • What is the purpose of having a customer service team and numbers to call when all they do for you is simply say sorry just like the inbox message informing consumers their item is not going to be delivered as promised?

The answers to these questions could depend largely on if consumers that largely utilize Amazon including myself will continue to pay for the service or not. If they don’t have any reasonable responses i’m not sure that I will continue to see the benefit in paying the monthly fee. I would hope the company would have the integrity to post the results of these questions and not keep them a secret in the event the answers arent to their liking.
