ASSIGNMENT EXAMPLE: SPOTIFY
Spotify handles the art of persuasion to its consumers through the principles of scarcity, reciprocity, and liking.
- Scarcity: When Spotify was first launched in the United Kingdom, it was by “invitation only,” which limited its availability to the general public. Due to high demand, it opened up its subscription service globally.
- Reciprocity: Spotify offers a 30-day free plan for users to try out its premium subscription. It offers four different premium plans (student, family, partner, and individual), and they all include Hulu and Showtime subscriptions as a bonus.
- Liking: Spotify offers a personalized playlist titled “Spotify Wrapped” for each user at the end of the year. This playlist bundles together the most listened songs of every user throughout the year.
