1.  Pine trees that are too tall or too short do not do as well as pine trees that are average in height. The short trees do not get as much light as tall or average trees. The tall trees are more likely to break off in storms. Tell how this is an example of stabilizing selection. Be sure to define stabilizing selection in your answer.
Your response must be at least 75 words in length.

2.  There is a moth in England called the peppered moth. Before Britain’s industrial revolution, these moths were usually salt and pepper colored. Because of their coloring, they blended in well with the tree trunks on which they tended to rest. The coloring helped them hide from the birds that ate them. During the British industrial revolution, industry expelled a lot of soot from the burning of coal into the environment. This soot darkened the tree trunks, and it was noted that black-colored moths were becoming predominant. The idea is that with soot in the environment, black-colored moths fared better than light-colored moths. There is some debate as to whether this is actually the case or not, but for the sake of this question, let’s assume it is.
In your own words, explain the concepts from the four observations discussed in 12.2 using the moth as an example. In other words, how does the moth illustrate the first observation, the second observation, etc.?
Your response must be at least 200 words in length.

3. Explain how homology is different from convergent evolution and give examples. Briefly define homologyand convergent evolution in your explanation.
Your response must be at least 200 words in length.

You have been asked to identify the hazards of operating this equipment and make recommendations of ways to control the hazards. Determine at least one control strategy from each level of the hierarchy of controls (elimination, substitution, engineering, administrative, personal protective equipment). Select the control or combination of controls that you feel would be most effective. Explain the reasoning for your choices.

Your response must be at least 300 words in length.

Cumulative Investing Project

This cumulative investing project will help you to understand the factors, decisions, and ethics that influence the performance of multinational corporations (MNCs) and foreign stocks in the international financial environment.

In this unit, you will continue to work with the stock portfolio you created in Unit II, consisting of at least three U.S.-based MNCs and two foreign stocks. You will monitor the performance of the portfolio during the course. In Unit VIII, you will attempt to explain why each stock increased or decreased in price and why your portfolio performed well or poorly. Your explanations should offer insight into what is driving the valuations of the companies.

For this unit, continue to use the spreadsheet you created in Unit II to track your investment. As a reminder, the Unit II spreadsheet consists of the following data points:

  • firm name;
  • ticker symbol;
  • amount of investment in each stock ($10,000 per stock for a total of $50,000);
  • price per share at which you purchased the stock;
  • exchange rate;
  • percentage change in stock price, which will be updated again in Units VI and VIII; and
  • change analysis, which will identify the primary reason for the change in stock price. (This column will be updated again in Units VI and VIII.)

Update the spreadsheet columns with the percentage change in the stock price since your last assignment submission (you may use an interval of your choosing, such as a single update or daily, weekly, or other) and the primary reason for the change in the stock price up to the current date.

In a separate Word document, respond to the prompts below.

  • Assess government influence on the exchange rate behavior of each company.
  • Do you see any opportunity for international arbitrage with any of the companies’ exchange rates? Why, or why not?
  • Discuss interest rate and purchasing power parity as it pertains to each company.
  • What forecasting technique would you use to forecast the exchange rate, and how would you assess forecast performance?
  • What is the degree of each company’s transaction, economic, and translation exposure? What factors affect exposure in each currency? What desirable characteristics might limit exposure?

You can monitor the portfolio using various apps, such as Robinhood or Yahoo! Finance. These types of apps provide charts, recent news, and other information on the stocks.

Submit your spreadsheet and summary. Your summary should be at least two pages in length. Adhere to APA Style when constructing this assignment, and include in-text citations and references for all sources that are used. Please note that no abstract is needed. For the summary, use a minimum of two sources, one of which may be the textbook. Your summary should include a title page, introduction, body, conclusion, and references page.

Quotes from: http://hawthorneinsalem.org/Literature/Quakers&Witches/Quakers/MMD521.html

Mary Dyer, October 27, 1659

“This is to me the hour of greatest joy I ever had in this world. No ear can hear, no tongue can utter, and no heart can understand the sweet incomes and the refreshings of the spirit of the Lord, which I now feel.”

1. What does she mean?

2. Comparison: How does this quote compare to what you saw in the video?

William Leddra, March 14, 1661 (written on the day he was hanged)

“The sweet influences of the Morning Star like a flood, distilling into my habitation, have so filled me with the joy of the Lord in the beauty of holiness that my spirit is as if it did not inhabit a tabernacle of clay, but is wholly swallowed up in the beauty of eternity from whence it had its being…. As the flowing of the ocean doth fill every creek and branch and then retires again toward its own being and fulness, leaving a savor behind, so doth the life and power of God flow into our hearts, making us partakers of the Divine nature.”

3. What does he mean?

Wenlock Christison, March 1661 (spoken in court before his death sentence was overturned)

“Do not think to weary out the living God by taking away the lives of His servants. What do you gain by it? For the last man you put to death, here are five come in his room. And if you have power to take my life from me, God can raise up the same principle of life in ten of his servants and send them among you in my room.”
