Final Project – Discussion Board Briefing Instructions
In this class we have only one
Discussion Board and this discussion board and related replies make up your final project. The discussion board will be comprised of an original post and reply posts. This discussion board is research-based and will require significant outside journal article reading.
Your original thread will be based on the prompt below. Your original thread shall be 800 to 1,200 words with a minimum of 5 properly formatted citations (this does not include title page, abstract, attachments, or reference section). The thread
must be submitted in the Discussion Board Forum’s textbox and
as well as an attached properly formatted, current APA Word document. The original post shall be completed by Wednesday of the week assigned (week 8).
You will post a 250-word reply to 2 classmate’s threads. The reply requires a minimum of 1 properly formatted citation. Each reply must be completed by you, the individual student. The reply posts are due the last day of the week assigned (Friday of Week 8).
Responding to a classmate’s post requires both the addition of new ideas and analysis. A particular point made by the classmate must be addressed and built upon by your analysis in order
to move the conversation forward. Thus, the response post is a rigorous assignment that requires you to build upon initial posts to develop deeper and more thorough discussion of the ideas introduced in the initial posts. As such, reply posts that merely affirm, restate, or unprofessionally quarrel with the previous post(s) and fail to make a valuable, substantive contribution to the discussion will receive appropriate point deductions.
Reference expectations:
You must use a
minimum of 5 recent relevant sources. You may use .gov sources as your recent and relevant sources as long as the writing is academic in nature (authored works) or well researched (CIA or State Department. Although the rigor of the quality references is not as demanding as your previous papers – you will still be graded on your reference quality. If you have questions about the applicability of references contact your professor prior to turning in your discussion board/paper.
This course utilizes the Post-First feature in all Discussion Board Forums. This means you will only be able to read and interact with your classmates’ threads

This Discussion Board is not a traditional 350 to 500 word original and 250 word reply posts. This discussion board is your final project and represent a major research project. 800 to 1,200 words is 3 to five pages of writing.
Discussion Board Prompt:
You are a university professor preparing to bring a group of Liberty University students to a foreign country as part of your comparative criminal justice systems class. Although you could get students to do the work -you decide to give a great example of an analysis of the criminal justice system in a particular country. Prepare an analysis, in the form of a discussion board post and a research paper, of a country’s criminal justice system with the below listed items in mind:
The following is an outline of what you should cover in your post and paper:
1) Choose a country to analyze
a. The country shall not be a country we covered in our four writing assignments or in our three PowerPoint Presentations.
b. Begin your paper with a brief analysis of the following elements:
i. Country analysis
1. Introduction to the country
2. People and society of the country
3. Economy
4. Transnational issues (if applicable) that may impact law enforcement
5. Relations with the United States
c. What is the basic government structure and its relationship to the criminal justice system
d. What is the “legal family” or basis of law in the country
e. What are the major components of the criminal justice system in the country
1) Please explain the following elements:
a. Briefly explain the law enforcement system of the country
b. Briefly explain the judicial process of the country
c. Briefly explain the corrections process of the country
1) Provide a brief analysis on:
a. The effectiveness of the criminal justice system in the country
b. The human rights perspective of the country
Keep in mind your analysis by mere fact of the word count and reference count is much briefer than your previous four research papers.
