Part 2
Note: Complete the task and write your answers to this part of the homework assignment before going on to question 3. In class, we watched the following YouTube video which you may want to review again now.
“Watchdog group tracks what really happens to your ‘recycled’ e-waste”
a) Review your answers to HW #8 – Preliminary Work Part 1. How does the information in this video align with your initial thoughts regarding e-waste? What is different from your initial thoughts on e-waste versus what is actually taking place on what appears to be a world-wide scale?
b) Look through the National Society of Professional Engineer’s “Code of Ethics for Engineers” and also find (internet search) and browse a code related to your engineering discipline (e.g., mechanical engineering students will find an ASME Code of Ethics, civil engineering students will find the ASCE Code of Ethics, etc.). In detail address engineering ethics and social responsibility in the context of e-waste recycling and reference key points from the codes of ethics and the videos to support your position.
c) After watching this video do you believe that this is a topic that should be a concern for engineers? Why or why not? How can engineers impact this? Be specific.
