Processes do change, very quickly, that is why it is so critical to keep up-to-date with the latest literature. Let’s talk a little more about a literature review. When available (it takes a lot of studies and thus several years usually), systematic reviews, meta-analyses, meta-syntheses, and mixed-methods systematic reviews are great to use. What Burns and Grove (2015 talk about is “doing” a good literature review.
For example, what you do in this class is to look at the literature and use it. You have an issue, a research question – and then you search (or review) the available literature to see what research has already been done on your topic/issue. No need to reinvent a solution if one already exist and then you can start by using all readily available knowledge. So reviewing the literature is a process of looking up all that is known on a topic and basically summarizing it – like you are doing this week except that you are only required to find 3 sources or research articles. Does that make more sense?
