Personal Nursing Professional Development Discussion

Hirers buy benefits and solutions! Think of every interview as a buyer/seller relationship. You have a service to sell, which is your value to the employer, and like a good salesperson, you need to know how to use techniques to help you make the sale.

There are three (3) ways you can convince the hiring authority to buy what you have to offer.

  1. Yourself and your personality
  2. Your abilities and your credentials
  3. Your potential worth to the company

INSTRUCTIONS:

For this discussion, reflect on how you can use yourself and your personality to get the Nursing job.

  • Choose a personality trait of yours and explain why you chose that strength.
  • Discuss how that personality trait reflects the P.R.I.C.E. elements of success.
  • Describe the soft skills that are related to the chosen trait.
  • Explain how you plan to use the elements of P.R.I.C.E. and the soft skills you have chosen, to sell that personality trait

Please be sure to validate your opinions and ideas with citations and references in APA format and in-text citations.

Peer’s Discussion Post

A personality trait that I hold is compassion. I picked out this trait because I genuinely care about other people, their feelings and well being. My family and friends always know they can count and call on me because they know I will help them in any way and always check on them to make sure they are straight. My patients always compliment me on how I go the extra mile to get them what they need throughout their hospital visit.

My personality trait reflects the P.R.I.C.E elements of success because of my compassion towards people and my level of professionalism. By me going that extra mile for my family, friends and patients it shows that I care and that theirs people out here with a heart. This is when people are at their most vulnerable state that I get to be the one to care for them and do those things for them when family aren’t there or cant make it because of other situations or things that they have going on. I feel that you cant be in this profession and not have compassion.

Some soft skills related to compassion are empathy and sympathy.Sympathy is feeling compassion or commiseration for another person, while empathy is when you project yourself into them and feel what they are feeling (McClafferty, 2014). These soft skills are used often when I’m giving care to my patients. Sometimes my patients doesn’t have the support system they need to be able to heal and progress while in the hospital and thats where that compassion/empathy/sympathy comes to play. They look for those things when they are not there and I can honestly say that It makes me feel good to know that Im able to make someone feel better about their stay.

How I plan to use the elements of P.R.I.C.E and the soft skills is the way that I use them everyday in life. I talk and interact with people and patients daily. So this gives me the opportunity to be able to interact and use those skills in my everyday life.
