No matter what profession you will choose to go into, suicide is something that can affect everyone in every walk of life (personally and/or professionally). Many people have lost someone to suicide, heard about someone who was lost to suicide, and/or struggled with suicidal thoughts ourselves.  In spite of all our personal strength, we are not immune to challenges especially when tragic events happen.  At moments like these, we need to remember to take care of ourselves.  Self-care is well-known, but that doesn’t mean it’s easy to do.

The purpose of this assignment is to reflect on your personal self care and areas that you may want to focus on for further self care.  It is also to develop an emergency self care plan.  These are tools you can use in the future for yourself and others.  

  1. Complete the “Self Care Assessment” – https://socialwork.buffalo.edu/content/dam/socialwork/home/self-care-kit/self-care-assessment.pdf.
  2. Write about your findings in the “Self Care Assessment”.  Do you feel you have some areas you would like to focus on more for self care?  Are there areas you feel you are satisfied with?  Do you feel overall balance in your self care?

  4. Write about things you currently do for self care and some things you may want to try.  The “Self Care Exercise and Activities” is not a comprehensive list, merely suggestions for you.  You can review these and find others applicable to you and your life and situation.

  6. Write about your experience in completing the “Emergency Self care Worksheet”.
