Effective communication is very important as it helps individuals understand the information and direction that is being conveyed. Public health leaders must be passionate, committed, and use strategic planning to disseminate clear and concise information so that individuals can comprehend and interpret information appropriately, reduce risk, and implement methods that help patients understand health literacy, social and language barriers (Ratna, 2019).

Implementing and applying the 20 essential communication skills can build strong public health leaders and teams. Each communication skill category is very beneficial, however, the three most important skills for effective team management for public health leaders should entail active listening, coaching, mentoring, and facilitation, and public speaking. I selected these three because to be an effective public health communicator one must be able to be aware of barriers to communication, inform and educate individuals about health and ways to inspire change, and use key components of essential services of public health to transmit important information with others, continuously enhance communication skills as a lifelong goal, and respect and support plans and partnerships that will improve health (Rowitz, 2014).
