DAVPS Work of Creative & Interaction with Other Americans Essay

Creative presentation Guidelines:

Students are required to present a final creative project of their choosing (with professor’s permission) in lieu of a final paper. Students may either create:

  • A short (no more than 20 minutes) scene.
  • Visual art piece
  • A work of creative writing
  • A short film
  • Musical score
  • Staging (or reimagining) of a scene from one of the performance texts covered in class.

All creative work should be conducted in the spirit of some of the artists, artists’ methodologies, and /or performative practices covered in class.

Assessment will be based on:

  • Quality of the medium (no more than 20 minutes)
    • Does the project clearly identify key themes and questions of the course?
    • Does the project engage with said topics in an appropriate manner?
    • How does the project contribute to ongoing conversations on said topics?
  • Introductory presentation (variable)
    • What inspired you to engage with these topics, themes, and/or questions?
    • Set the stage for us. What does your audience need to know to engage with the project?
  • Q and A following the performance (3-5 minutes)
  • Reflection paper (see below)

Reflection:

In addition to the creative project, students must also submit a 3-5-page reflection paper detailing the larger class themes and questions the creative project engages with. The length of the paper must be proportional to the length of the performance. That is, the longer the performance, the shorter the reflection.
