THE ANSWER FOR THE 5 QUESTION SHOULD BE FROM THE PROFESSOR MATERILAS THATI GAVE YOU ON THE POST
PLEASE READ THE MATERILAS AND ANSWER THIS5 QUESTIONS
1. The most used model to explain the emergence of a New Religious Movement is Anthony Wallace’s “Revitalization Movement.” Write the definition of Revitalization Movement.
2. What are the stages of a Revitalization Movement?
3. Wallace’s model calls for sequential stages leading to revitalization. Some scholars have concluded that the process is not so linear, suggesting the preconditions are simultaneous crises at the micro (personal) level and the macro (sociocultural level). In any case, any new religion requires more than these psychological and social conditions. The catalyst is a “charismatic prophet” who delivers a new belief system that people in a state of personal and cultural distress will follow. For ISKCON, or the Hare Krishnas, who was this charismatic prophet? Explain how he fit this model.
4. Explain how the emergence of ISKCON in the United States followed Wallace’s stages of revitalization.
5. Most major religions existing today started as revitalization movements. Some would call these new religions “cults” which is a word we generally avoid today because of its negative connotation. The term New Religious Movement is preferred. Buddhism, Christianity, and Islam all started this way. The video from Islam: Empire of Faith describes the conditions existing in the Arabian Peninsula before Islam and the role of the Prophet Mohammad in the formation of that religion. With this in mind, explain how the beginning of Islam fits the Revitalization Movement model.
