Pitt Community College Birds in Childrens Books Annotated Bibliography

 

Introduction:

For this assignment, you will be creating an Annotated Bibliography of children’s picture books according to the theme you selected when completing Assignment Two: Curriculum Webs.  These bibliographies are beneficial to teachers when trying to find a good selection of books to use during different activities.  They serve as a great resource to keep on hand for years to come.

The Assignment:

Use your selected theme from Assignment Two: Curriculum Webs (examples of themes for include: Community Helpers, Holidays Around the World, Transportation, Math, Friends, Gardening, Cooking, etc.)

Research and develop a list of at least ten children’s picture books related to your chosen theme.

Create an annotated bibliography of the books you found, including all of the following information.

Author, title, illustrator, publisher, and the publication date

  1. Write a brief description of the book, how it relates to your chosen theme, concepts introduced, and how you might use it in the classroom.  Your descriptions should be between 4-5 sentences each.

Put your list in alphabetical order by author’s last name.

1.    Brown, M.W. (2003). The Little Island. New York: Random House

a.    Using this book when teaching a theme unit on weather will help children understand how the seasons change and how the physical earth changes simultaneously. The book also discusses the point of view or perspective, allowing for the opportunity to ask children quest6ions, have discussions, and determine their perspectives while reading this book. Following reading the book, I could have children draw a picture and tell a story about their view of why certain weather events occur or their favorite season and why.
