University of California Los Angeles A Dolls House Film Analysis & Response

Watch film version of “A Doll’s House.”

In the film version of A Doll’s House, you are essentially seeing a stage production on film. That is quite different than a remake of a play that recreates the settings to suit the film environment. In addition, the play follows Ibsen’s script, and does not create (as most films do) a new, modernized screenplay. That allows you a glimpse of the dynamics of this play on the real stage. It is unfortunate that we cannot go and have a wonderful evening at the theater (actually Ibsen is quite popular), but this is second best. As always, your initial post must be 250 words minimum (excluding quoted material) and your three peer responses must be 50 words minimum.

In your response, I want to write about something that struck you in the play. It could be:

the way a character was portrayed

a specific scene

the setting

something that struck you differently when you read it

(there are other things you could write about as well–this list is not exhaustive)
