Describe the characteristics of the first and second heart sounds and its intensity at the apex of the heart and at the base. Which conditions increase the intensity and which conditions decrease the intensity of the first and second heart sounds?

2. Define the third and fourth heart sounds. When in the cardiac cycle do they occur? Describe the intensity, quality, location in which they are heard, and method of auscultation for each.
