Penn Foster College Nationalism Described as Priding in Ones Nation Discussion
This week we begin to cover the question of “nationalism” and “national identity” two concepts that are thrown around quite regularly with, at least in my opinion, little understanding of what they actually entail. For our discussion this week, I want you to focus on these two questions:
- What is nationalism and is it a positive or negative aspect of politics?
- Do you think group identity is “imagined” and if so what are the political implications for this?
Nationalism is in some ways a difficult concept to pin down especially when there are multiple identities within an individual. As you have now seen there are many short videos and readings to help us understand nationalism and identity (nationalism is a form of identity) so as to engage in this conversation.
