On Monday, we emailed you the country or region (mine is Egypt)  you’ll be studying for the Final Project. Using some of our familiar resources (the Garland Encyclopedia of World Music, Smithsonian Global Sound, UW-Madison Libraries website, etc.) write a paragraph (4-6 sentences) responding to the following prompts as they pertain to your assigned country/region:

• What are some of the prevalent styles of music that pop up in your initial research? This can include, but is not limited to, things like instruments that are heavily featured, a mood of the music you’re seeing a lot of, or the purpose the music is used for (prayer? theater? ceremony? etc.)
• What seems to be the most common or important genre(s) from that country/region?
• Based on your work so far, what is one possible arc/narrative theme your group might choose for their playlist? You might choose to go broad (e.g. a survey of many different genres, time periods, etc) or narrow (ie, exploring one genre in-depth, studying musics with one particular purpose, etc.)
