Families are complicated and friendships are dependent on geography, mobility, etc., but one thing people can control is the types of services, resources, and support their cities provide older adults. Social support is not only in the form of friendship or conversation but includes lots of other things. The graphic to the left shows you many different types of resources offered by the local, regional, and national communities at no cost or low cost. Spend some time researching your city (or a city of your choosing–feel free to “travel” around the world and explore places near and far!) and identifying the various types of low-cost or no-cost services available to seniors. Please do not list all the things one city senior center does/offers. Branch out and see what other city, community or non-profit organizations offer so that you have an understanding of the social resources available from multiple sources.
