Writing Homework Help
Analysis of Steven Spielberg Lincoln Discussion
we’ll have two things to do: watch Steven Spielberg’s LINCOLN, on HBO MAX, and write a 3-4 page paper diving into the elements of the film that spoke to you.
Assignment: In 3-4 pages (double spaced, 12-point font, Times New Roman, normal margins), analyze LINCOLN with the four elements of cinema we have explored in the class so far this semester: narrative structure, cinematography, editing, and the hero’s journey.
This will serve as your midterm paper/exam. It is worth 100 points.
Namely, you’ll answer this broad question: How does LINCOLN use editing, cinematography, narrative structure and the hero’s journey to tell its story, and does it use the elements effectively?
You are required to use the terms we’ve explored in the class (comb through the previous Modules!). However, I’m giving you subjective leeway here, i.e., how do *you* think LINCOLN uses the above elements? For instance – you could point out a particular scene uses one long *push in* shot on Lincoln while he gives a monologue, but you might find the technique – and the scene – overly long. You might see back-to-back crossfades and decide that it was a great way to convey the passage of time…but WHY? Don’t be afraid to go through previous notes, modules and discussions!
