Writing Homework Help

University of Rochester Patterns of Global Health Question

WHAT DO I HAVE TO WRITE?

You will write 2-3 single spaced pages that focus on honing your knowledge about the origins of global health norms as they have been shaped through time. The paper will be divided into three interrelated parts. The directions below will guide you through the three sections.

HOW WILL THE PAPER BE GRADED?

There’s a rubric posted here. The rubric focuses on the following:

  • Did the author follow directions? Are all the sections developed?
  • Does the author provide a narrative thread that connects critiques made in section 1 and 2 with reflections in the final section?
  • Does the author draw from the appropriate course materials?
  • Is the paper written in a compelling, clearly articulated manner?
  • Does the paper offer a novel interpretation of the material?

WHAT MATERIALS DO I NEED TO COMPLETE THIS PAPER?

You’ll need to purchase The Life Equation (available on amazon or vimeo for around $10), draw from Packard, mini-lectures, and discussions.

WHAT ARE THE SPECS?

  • Upload to mycourses here
  • 2-3 single spaced pages
  • Times New Roman
  • 12 point font
  • Word doc or pdf
  • Reference course readings directly, using parenthetical citations (pg. #).
  • No need for a reference list

WHAT ARE THE PAPER SECTIONS?

FIRST, THINGS, FIRST

Global public health is a term that refers to a wide array of institutions, practices, and ideas. For the first part of our term we have gone deep into the formation of global health norms, which continue to shape how health interventions are designed today. This paper will answer the following question: After reading about close to seventy years of detailed history of global health, what patterns do you see that have formed from global health’s earliest days? What patterns are most important in shaping whether interventions succeed or fail? [1 page]

Tip: You don’t have much space, so be selective. Choose themes that relate in some way – either through similarity or contrast to the themes you develop in section 2.

WHAT HISTORICAL PATTERNS ARE EVIDENT TODAY?

This section will be based on your interpretation of the film, The Life Equation. The film’s media poses some important questions: “What if there were an algorithm for saving the most lives? It’s a scientific, evidence-based approach that cuts through the emotion and promises to transform the lives of hundreds of millions. But who, and what, gets lost in the number crunching?” After watching the film, you should answer this question: What historic trends do you see continuing in this film? What are the differences? [1 page]

Tip: Focus on 1 or 2 historical trends, summarize them in part one and then in this section offer contemporary examples that are counterparts to the examples from the film —either through similarity or contrast.

WHAT DO WE DO ABOUT IT?

You’ve learned a lot about global health and identified those historical patterns in a contemporary example. Now, what do we do about it? In this section, provide some reflection, ideas or suggestions about how to “do” global health better. [1/2 page]

Tip: Tailor your reflection to the critiques you make in section 1 and 2.
