Architecture and Painting of Iftikhar Dadi Analysis and Summary

question: We are finally entering post-colonial Asia. The next four classes (or two in our compressed summer term) examine the architectural and artistic output of four Asian nations in the aftermath of the Second World War. In this week’s forum, we start by looking at how architecture and painting were transformed in India and Pakistan after 1947. The Partition of India is a key rupture. So, I want you to begin by defining the term rupture in your own words. Once you have done this I want you to summarize either Prakash or Dadi for this week’s summary.

For your analysis, I want you to look at either architecture or painting and answer why these particular styles–of brutalism and cubist inspired modernism–become the definition of modern art and architecture in these newly emergent nations. You may use any material under Week 5 to support your answers.
