Global Health Issues/Global Perspectives Paper

Purpose: The purpose of the paper is to engage students in global health. The main
aim is to conduct an investigation and analysis of a significant health issue that affects
the global population. As a writing across the curriculum assignment, students must
present current literature related to the problem and the outcome.
Instructions:
1. The student is to select an issue or topic that is related to global health, which
has a cultural component. All topics must be approved by the course faculty.
2. The final paper is to include a 10–12-page paper (excluding the title page and
references) in 7th edition APA format that relies upon literature in the past 5-7
years and addresses the following:
I. Introduction and overview of the issue
II. Background, Significance, and Problem Statement
III. Review of the Literature
IV. Cultural and Global Considerations (Items for consideration)
a. What are the culture/s represented in the health issue?
b. Are there cultural differences express? If so, how are they
expressed
c. Are there traditional health beliefs or healers that need to be
consulted to address the issue?
d. Are there religious traditions and norms that must be taken
into consideration?
e. What are the historical/geographical and/or economical
barriers to resolving the problem?
V. Impact Review (Items for consideration)
a. What is the impact of the issue on population health?
b. How do the current health care facilities or lack of them
contribute to the issue?
c. How do the issue impact local/global economies?
d. What are the long-term sequela and how does that impact
the quality of life?

VI. Proposal of a solution that involves a health promotion mode or
another call to action.
VII. Proposal of a process to evaluate the proposed solution.
