Chapter 1 Team Members Sharing a Common Vision Analysis Essay
An individual cannot lead unless his/her team members share a common vision. Refer to Chapter 1 of the Harrison text as a guide to help you articulate a vision and how to inspire others to share in the same vision. If you currently work for an organization, use that organization in your paper. If you are a full time student, use RFUMS as your organization.
- Introduction – Explain what a shared vision is and introduce the content of your paper
- Reflect on personal experiences – Think about times in your past where you were affected by someone else’s vision. Why did or didn’t they make a difference? What inspires you to join in with someone else’s passion?
- Reflect on your contributions as a leader – If someone were to speak of you as a “visionary leader”, what would they say? What would you hope they would say?
- Define vision and check the fit – What is your definition of “vision”? What is your vision statement for your life? Is your vision aligned with your organization’s? How would you resolve the conflict if there isn’t alignment? ***Note: If there is no “misalignment” of vision, describe how you would handle the situation if there were a true conflict.***
- Discover common ground – How does your vision serve the common good of others? Who are the shareholders in your vision? How can you tell if you are inspiring others? What are they saying or doing?
- Conclusion – What have you learned about yourself as a leader with regard to inspiring a shared vision? How would you improve your past actions to meet future organizational objectives with regard to inspiring a shared vision? What will be the most effective way for you to give life to your vision?
