Hello I am in a group that is doin research on ACE ( Adverse Childhood Experience) Trauma within baby boomers. I would like to focus on the either the mental or environmental effects of suppressed trauma on baby boomers vs GenZ/ Millennials. I need 3 scholarly articles that are no older than 2016 to base this topic off of. This is my part of a group literature review so I will need a research question and a hypothesis to go along with it. Please cite all sources in APA format and write paper in APA I have a group outline that I have started on just in case you need an idea of the direction of the paper. Below I will add a description from the professor but my part is only to find 3 scholarly articles and summarize them, at least two pages explain what type childhood experiences lead to this type of trauma. I need this done and sent to me no later than 1:30pm on 5/26/21.

What is a Literature Review?

For those new to academic research, the literature review is one of the least understood parts of a research project. A literature review is a summary of previous research on a topic. Literature reviews can be either a part of a larger report of a research project, or it can be a bibliographic essay that is published separately in a scholarly journal. Either way, the purpose is the same, to review the scholarly literature relevant to the topic you are studying. This review will help you design your methodology and help others to interpret your research. Some questions you may think about as you develop your literature review:

  • What is known about the subject?
  • Are there any gaps in the knowledge of the subject?
  • Have areas of further study been identified by other researchers that you may want to consider?
  • Who are the significant research personalities in this area?
  • Is there consensus about the topic?
  • What aspects have generated significant debate on the topic?
  • What methods or problems were identified by others studying in the field and how might they impact your research?
  • What is the most productive methodology for your research based on the literature you have reviewed?
  • What is the current status of research in this area?
  • What sources of information or data were identified that might be useful to you?

Why do a Literature Review?

The purpose of a literature review is to help you explain how the question to be investigated fits into the larger picture and why you have approached the topic the way you have. This section of a scholarly report allows the reader to be brought up to date regarding the state of research in the field and familiarizes him or her to any contrasting perspectives and viewpoints on the topic.

How do you write a Literature Review?

Summarize and explain what research has been done on the topic, citing the sources as you mention them. Point out the different ways researchers have treated the topic. Point out any connections between the sources especially where one source built upon prior study. Explain how this past work fits together to make your research question significant. Your literature review should present your synthesis of previous research and lay the foundation for understanding your research and appreciating its value.

1. Choose a topic. Define your research question.

Your literature review should be guided by a central research question(s). Remember, it is not a collection of loosely related studies in a field but instead represents background and research developments related to a specific research question, interpreted and analyzed by you in a synthesized way.

Tips:

  • Make sure your research question is not too broad or too narrow. Is it manageable?
  • Begin writing down terms that are related to your question. These will be useful for searches later.
  • If you have the opportunity, discuss your topic with your professor.

2. Decide on the scope of your review.

How many studies do you need to look at? (12) How comprehensive should it be? How many years should it cover?

Tip: This may depend on your assignment. How many sources does the assignment require? 12 sources are required for this assignment.

3. Select the databases you will use to conduct your searches.

Make a list of the databases you will search. Remember to include comprehensive databases such as WorldCat and Dissertations & Theses, if you need to.

Where to find databases:

See web based search engines

Librarians create research guides for all of the disciplines on campus! Take advantage of their expertise and see what discipline-specific search strategies they recommend!

4. Conduct your searches and find the literature. Keep track of your searches!

  • Review the abstracts of research studies carefully. This will save you time.
  • Write down the searches you conduct in each database so that you may duplicate them if you need to later (or avoid dead-end searches that you’d forgotten you’d already tried).
  • Use the bibliographies and references of research studies you find to locate others.
  • Ask your professor or a scholar in the field if you are missing any key works in the field.

5. Review the literature.

Some questions to help you analyze the research:

  • What was the research question of the study you are reviewing? What were the authors trying to discover?
  • Was the research funded by a source that could influence the findings?
  • What are the strengths and weaknesses
  • What were the research methodologies? Analyze its literature review, the samples and variables used, the results, and the conclusions. Does the research seem to be complete? Could it have been conducted more soundly? What further questions does it raise?
  • If there are conflicting studies, why do you think that is?
  • How are the authors viewed in the field? Has this study been cited?; if so, how has it been analyzed?

Tips:

  • Again, review the abstracts carefully.
  • Keep careful notes so that you may track your thought processes during the research process.

In this phase of your research project development, you are required to submit your review of literature that will provide a theoretical and etiological account of your project. Consistent with class discussions, your paper to date should include in narrative form the purpose of your study, research objectives, research questions, hypotheses and identification of variables that will define the analysis of your study. Your paper MUST be written in APA format. To assist with your organization and thorough review, your review of the literature should be 8 pages, not including the reference page). You must find a total of 12 articles to address your research. Articles reviewed must be no older than five years, except for two (2) articles that have a theoretical (historical) base. In addition, submit three research questions and three hypotheses for your study. The literature review must address the research questions. You are required to write 3 research questions and 3 hypotheses that are aligned with your research. FURTHER, YOU ARE REQUIRED TO HAVE YOUR PAPER REVIEWED BY PERSONNEL IN THE WRITING LAB. DOCUMENTION OF LAB REVIEW WILL BE PROVIDED TO ME FROM LAB PERSONNEL. FAILURE TO HAVE A REVIEW WILL RESULT IN A 15% POINTS REDUCTION IN YOUR FINAL GRADE.
