For All We Have and Are A Patriotic Poem by Kipling Analysis
OPTION A: Find one poem in our assigned reading that seems to you patriotic in a traditional sense and one poem that seems to question patriotism. Write a paragraph or two on each one, demonstrating their opposing attitudes.
OPTION B: Analyze “Dulce et Decorum Est” using the poem’s pronouns and verb tenses as a guide to the structure. What different “sections” can you notice? How would you describe each section, and how does the poem’s progress through these sections constitute a kind of narrative or plot? Why does the dominant pronoun make a difference to the meaning of each section, and of the whole?
