(Note1: For this answer, you need to read the book “Amusing Ourselves to Death Neil Postman ISBN-10: 0140094385″. http://ektr.uni-eger.hu/wp-content/uploads/2015/11…Note2, Please read the #Reading Hw PDF# in inside have before reading homework with this book.)

As your reading of Amusing Ourselves to Death, and the insightful/relevant work and comments that the class has generated, have shown–the various media (types of medium/modes of communication) that handle information inevitably have their respective effect, effects that are impactful in nearly every aspect of our society, economy, culture, politics, etc., in the past (as Postman illuminates) AND in the world we live in today. However, as you have no doubt noticed in your reading experience, Postman is talking about the Age of Television (AOTD published in 1985). The informational media systems of that era (especially given how fast tech has been developing) are somewhat different from now, and Postman’s final chapter only begins to deal with significant developments of the Computer Age, but of course cannot foresee things like social media proliferation, e-commerce, mobile phone advancements, etc. As we head into our major essay on the overall topic, the next step is to add to Postman (and the work/discussion that you have done with text) additional related source materials that take recent developments into consideration, ie. to update and augment the information that Postman has provided. Let’s start with this article published by The Economist, an influential international journal, published out of Great Britain, that discusses, with dedicated focus, some the of the developments and effects that digital information technologies have had on business and the global economy and therefore, inevitably, on society and culture.

Take a close look at #4 in Probing Content (in the questions at the end of the article). In this discussion you will post your answer (with quotes from the article (2 at least) to support your analysis, AND, in response to the second part of the question (“Why is this diff. important…) you should:

1. Think in terms of YOUR generation/peers (not necessarily “Gen Y”)

2. Provide some evidence from the world we live in today to support your response.
