Air Pollution and the Clean Air Act Discussion

  • This paper should be a maximum of 4-5 double space pages of text long (1,000-1,250 words). Excludes title page, references, footnotes/endnotes, and tables/figures.
  • Select a policy issue and specific policy (current or proposed law or program) that you will research and write about regarding housing, transportation, or the environment. If you want to select a topic not related to housing, transportation, or the environment, the topic must be approved by a TA. You should choose a different topic than those that have been discussed in class.
  • Write an Introduction describing a policy issue and specific policy (current or proposed law or program) regarding housing, transportation or the environment. Describe the various stakeholders affected by this issue.
  • For this policy issue, discuss how the different sectors (public, private and nonprofit) are affected or addressing this issue.
  • Describe at least one U.S. alternative and one international alternative to address this policy issue. Evaluate these alternatives and provide recommendations to mitigate or resolve this issue. Your recommendations are not only your opinions; they must be derived from the readings and data (you must cite).
  • You must have at least three citations from different peer-reviewed academic articles. These citations must be different from the assigned course readings (you should read more than three resources to find the best citations). You can also cite a book or a reputable newspaper (The New York Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, Los Angeles Times, etc.), but this would be in addition to the three peer-reviewed academic articles.
  • Your paper should include the following headers/sections:
    • Introduction
    • Public, Private, and Nonprofit Sector Policies
    • Alternatives
      • United States
      • International
    • Conclusion and Recommendations
    • References

The policy paper must be 12-point font, 1 inch margins, double-spaced, with page numbers, and using American Psychological Association (APA) citations/references format. Every assignment must have your first and last name, student ID, course name, professor name, quarter and year, and assignment name. Title page, references, footnotes/endnotes, and tables/figures are excluded from the page count. This academic paper should be written in essay format, and not bullet points or question/answer format. For academic and research policy papers, you should infrequently use first person, “I.” Points will be deducted for not addressing the prompt in detail and for typos and grammar errors.
