SMC Emotional Intelligence Strength Balancing Work & Personal Life Discussion

Please answer each question as thoroughly as possible.

Make sure to number each answer – Write “1” for your Q 1 answer, and “2” for your Q2 answer.  Within each question, there are sub-questions A, B sometimes a C, and it would be very helpful if you also have separate small paragraphs for each of these sub-answers (follow the same format in your answers as the questions are written).  The more clearly you answer each part of each question, the easier it will be for our class GA to read and score your answers, which are based on both quality of your content and quality of your writing skills.

2. In your textbook, pg 351, please read the section entitled, “Little Things are Big Things at Life is Good.” After reading this section carefully, please discuss the following:

A. The Jacobs brothers have so far built a successful company with a positive message based on their own positive attitude, creativity and hard work.  Do you think the company can continue to grow successfully based on the brothers’ beliefs and talents? Why or Why not?

B. CSUN has a reputation for graduating students, who intend to start their own businesses.  If you were considering starting your own business in the future, what sort of personality/character traits would you want to demonstrate to your employees, so those employees would want to stay with your company and remain engaged, motivated and hard-working?  (Consider would you want to create a positive work environment by emphasizing your humor, a relaxed pace of work, fast-paced work, firmly follow the rules, lots of collaboration, etc). Those who start their own organizations really do create a positive or negative work environment based on their own personality and character traits.
